It has been widely reported in the news that there is potential strike action in the U.S
It has been widely reported that a strike is possible at the ports on the U.S East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. The U.S Maritime Alliance (USMX) Contract with the ILA covering all ports from Maine to Texas will expire at the end of September and the International Longshoremen's Association which represents the 45,000 workers has vowed to stop work if there is not a new labour agreement in place by the 1st October.
Analysts at Sea-Intelligence, a Copenhagen-based shipping advisory firm, estimate it could take anywhere from four to six days to clear the backlog from a one-day strike. Which if this goes on for a few weeks we would not see business return to usual until 2025.
At KTL Europe we are assessing the situation and we will support the needs of our customers to minimise disruptions. Please contact the team with any questions you may have and we will keep you updated as and when we know more.
